Orthopedic rehabilitation:
The tedious back pain or neck pain can be something that limits your physical function. Orthopedic conditions are conditions of the joints, tendons, ligaments and muscles that require rehabilitation. For e.g: knee replacements or injuries, hip injuries, muscle strains or sprains or injuries from participating in sport. We use exercise to build the strength in the muscles to support the joint itself to give you endurance and assist with range of motion which includes flexibility and mobility
Chronic rehabilitation:
Healing through movement, chronic conditions like cancer, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, fibromyalgia, arthritis, neurological conditions, stroke, rare diseases. Lifestyle modifications such as exercise, diet and and other lifestyle adjustments prevents the risk of these chronic conditions. Rehabilitation with a Biokineticist allows your practitioner to monitor the patient and prescribe scientifically based exercises for each condition, individualized according to the needs of each patient. Exercise manages the symptoms of these conditions and helps maintain it.
Special population/ general health and wellness
The elderly, children and pregnant individuals require one on one attention to assist with rehabilitation, improving performance of functional activities, promoting overall wellness and improving quality of life.
Post covid-19 rehabilitation
The current pandemic has taught us that exercise is the best medicine in most studies which shows that exercise improves breathlessness, increases muscle strength and endurance and improves quality of life and function in an individual,
POST COVID-19 rehabilitation:
The after effects of this virus leave individuals with muscle wasting, muscle atrophy, muscle weakness and overall decreased physical function.
The role a biokineticist with post covid-19 patients:
We assess the individual by means of scientific measures which includes:
- A detailed medical history
- Lung capacity test
- Cardiovascular fitness test
- Musculoskeletal measurements which include range of motion and muscle strength
- The goal is to get the patient back to their physical function prior to the covid-19 infection
- We use our skills and knowledge to draw up an exercise program suitable for the individuals needs and monitor the patient closely on a one-on- one session. Biokineticist are trained in knowing when to stop the exercise, which exercises to give the patient, the frequency, intensity and duration of exercise.
The benefits of physical exercise:
- Improve quality of life
- Exercise improves breathlessness,
- increases muscle strength and muscle mass
- Improves your energy
